Eastside School follows the CAPS curriculum, using the core content for teaching, learning and assessment. From this curriculum, teachers plan for diversification so that learners can expand knowledge or receive necessary support. Staff are also trained in Biblical Integration methods which ensures that all content is taught from a Biblical world view.
While the language of learning and teaching is English, mother tongue languages are valued from the earliest years. Staff help learners to transition to English, and grow in their language ability through listening, reading, writing and speaking.
In the Preprimary and Foundation Phases, Maths is taught through learning and exploring by using equipment and practical experiences.
Learning by doing applies to all subjects taught in the school – LifeSkills and Life Orientation, Natural Science and Technology, Social Science as well as Economics Management and Science.
Additional teaching time is allocated to three different Bible Curriculums in different grades – ACSI, One Hope’s 17 Stories as well as a character development curriculum.
Learners also do the Protective Behaviour’s Course which is a practical empowering approach to personal safety.
Co-curricular included in the weekly programme are soccer, netball, dance, singing, choir and isiZulu.
